The Mind and Hands Behind Enkle Designs
Enkle Designs is guided by the experience and curiosity of Michael McQuay, a craftsman who turned his years of working with wood, fabrics, and finishes into practical advice for everyday living. Raised in Vermont, Michael’s early fascination with tools and materials shaped his path toward studying Furniture Design at the Rhode Island School of Design.
His career in New York with a boutique maker exposed him to the challenges of creating pieces that were not only elegant but also built to endure. By 2025, he felt the pull to share what he had learned outside of workshops and showrooms, leading to the launch of Enkle Designs.
Today, Michael lives in Portland, Oregon, where his backyard workshop doubles as a testing ground for projects and ideas. What sets his writing apart is its foundation in practice every article comes from time spent building, repairing, and reimagining furniture.
His goal is simple: to help readers feel at ease caring for the pieces that make a house feel like home.
